Last week 秘色传媒 students and staff enjoyed celebrating Book Week. In House Groups, students participated in an Emoji Book Challenge and a Book Week House Quiz, with Dianella taking out the challenge on Friday. 秘色传媒 were invited to participate in Black Out Poetry activities and in their Wide Reading English classes, students learnt about the work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and were invited to participate in the Great Book Swap on 28 August. Money raised from the Book Swap donations will go directly towards supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation in their efforts to improve literacy rates of Indigenous children in remote areas of Australia.
A highlight of the week was a visit from author Cath Crowley on Thursday. Cath is a popular writer of Young Adult Fiction. Cath spoke to students about her writing process, her ideas and inspiration. She connected with our students who write and encouraged them with their work. Cath reinforced the idea that writing is a craft which requires refining over and over again before it can be complete. 秘色传媒 were reminded of the value of perseverance with their work.
To celebrate Book Week and promote a culture of reading in the College, staff were invited to be Reading Ambassadors. Staff have taken up the opportunity to promote their current read with students around the school through promoting the book on '秘色传媒 Reads' posters in their classrooms. 秘色传媒 have enjoyed learning more about their teachers through their choice of text selection and have been able to engage in conversations with their teachers based on their reading recommendations.
