Last week, Year 12 gathered together for a liturgy based around our College theme, One Body, Many Parts, and some reflective exercises to focus their hearts and minds on the important year ahead. Our weekly Eucharists commenced on Thursday, 8 February with a faithful gathering of staff. These celebrations of the Eucharist are open to students, parents, family members and staff every Thursday morning, commencing at 8.00am in the College Chapel. This time of prayer is an integral part of community life in a Dominican school.

Dominican Discovery Day

On Friday, 9 February ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ Year 7s participated in their Dominican Discovery Day. The aim was to become familiar with elements of our Dominican heritage, story, symbols and contemporary reality. ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ enjoyed quiet contemplation, a tour of St Dominic’s Priory and Church and a ‘Dominican Dash’, which saw students racing around our campus collecting letters to make up the name Saint Dominic de Guzman. The 153 students attended midday Eucharist with the St Dominic’s Parish community and participated in a collective art activity across the afternoon
Thanks to Year 7 RE staff, Sr Julianna Drobik OP, the Dominican community at St. Dominic’s and our caterers for their contributions on the day.

Marking the National Apology

To mark the 10th anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations our College took part in a House Group Liturgy. Led by our Fire Carrier and Social Justice Captains we recalled the significance of the day and prayed for harmony and reconciliation in our land. With alarming statistics released recently, indicating a rise in racism among Australians, it was a salutary reminder of the part each one of us can play in working toward a more just and hope-filled future for all.

Ash Wednesday

The beginning of Lent was marked at ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ by prayer services in every House Group, led by student leaders. The prayer service comprised a Gospel Reading, prayers of the people, distribution of ashes blessed at St Dominic’s and the launch of our 2018 Project Compassion campaign – For a Just Future. All students have been given a Project Compassion box which families may use to collect funds across Lent to support aid and development projects in Nepal, Cambodia, Jordan, Mozambique, the Philippines and Indigenous Australia. Commencement Eucharist

Last night Year 7s, student leaders, staff and parents gathered at St Dominic’s to ask God’s blessing on the year ahead. We welcomed our enthusiastic Year 7s and commissioned our Years 8 to12 ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ leaders in a real spirit of joy and community. Heartfelt thanks to the singers, musicians, readers, procession people, Eucharistic Ministers and student leaders who shaped or led an element of the Eucharist. We are also grateful to Fr Peter Murnane OP for generously joining us to preside at this Eucharist.
