Year 7 Music Information Evening

There is always a busy air of excitement at the Year 7 Music Information Evening and this year we weren’t disappointed, with many Year 7 students and their parents in attendance. The night started with our senior ensembles performing so our youngest musicians could hear the various instruments and ensembles on offer at ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ College. Mel Myrtle, Music Captain 2018, talked about her musical journey at ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ and our talented music staff introduced themselves and demonstrated their instruments. After that, the fun began with instrument trials. We had tooting, honking, bowing, strumming, banging and singing all throughout the gym. The energy level was high and the beginning notes were attempted without fear. Enrolments are now due and we encourage students to get their forms in fast to secure a spot in the program.

Wind Orchestra Flash Mob

On Tuesday, 20 February the Wind Orchestra made a surprise appearance in the Undercroft performing a medley of songs from the hit musical Aladdin. ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ carrying instruments and stands made their way through the gathering of students enjoying recess in the Undercroft and started performing this chart. It was a lot of fun to perform as a flash mob and we all appreciated the experience in this new space.

Twilight Fair

This inaugural College event was a relaxed and family friendly evening. The musical performances were impressive even after only four weeks of rehearsals and our students coped with the windy conditions of the outside gig. Thank you to all musicians and their conductors for putting on such a great show. Extra special thanks to our maintenance team for helping the music staff set up the outside stage and chairs. These events don’t happen by themselves and we would like to thank SPA and FOMPA for their support. The stalls, cheese and wine platters as well as the food vans created a fun and relaxed feel to the night.

New West Wing Performing Arts Centre

The Music Department has made its way across to the West Wing Performing Arts Centre and we are delighted to be running music lessons in the new tuition rooms and classrooms. We will miss the beautiful cloisters but we are delighted to have new, bright and sound proof music teaching spaces.
