On Friday, 23 February, six Year 8 students went on an excursion to The University of Melbourne to complete the Robogals program. The program is aimed specifically at girls in order to address the current gender disparity in STEM fields such as programming and engineering. They worked with girls from other schools to write programs for Lego Mindstorms robots in order to solve problems in an outer space context. The girls enjoyed themselves, and learned to apply programming skills to solve problems. Marc Nguyen Teacher Maths/Science
I enjoyed the Robogals competition/workshop greatly. It was really enjoyable and we got to work with some other schools on our engineering. I think I learnt lots about robots and engineering and I now know how much work goes into engineering. Charlotte Dickson 8B
The Robogals program was really enjoyable and informative, and I had lots of fun. We learnt how to program little robots to do different things, like complete courses that were set up for us. I thought it was a really new and exciting experience, and it expanded my knowledge of robots and mechanics too! Bridie Warren 8B
On Friday, 23 February six students and two teachers (Ella, Ellie, Charlotte, Bridie, Maddie, Ms M and Mr Nguyen and I, just to be exact) set off to The University of Melbourne to participate in a STEM workshop called Robogals. It was really fun and we learned how to program really cool robots. I enjoyed it a lot and would jump at the chance to do it again. Lauren Sammut 8C
